About Canyon View Escape

Designed by prominent Mid-Century Modern architect William Krisel in 1961, Canyon View Escape is a 1,900 square foot condominium home offering luxury throughout, and the Leisure Life for which the South Palm Springs area has been famous since it was developed.

Centered around the Living-Dining Room, whose double-gable roof and iconic clerestory glazing are the hallmark design detail of the neighborhood, this three-bedroom retreat features a designer gourmet kitchen whose bamboo cabinets, quartzite counters and glass-tile backslashes are paired with a wine cooler, a gas range with a warming drawer, a microwave-convection oven, and equipment for the serious cook. Two of the three bedrooms include king bedding, walk-in closets and en-suite baths; the third features queen bedding. All include 500-thread count egyptian cotton bedding. In-house laundry equipment, a generous two-car carport, and two bicycles are additional benefits.

There are a total of five flat-screen televisions in the Living Room, Breakfast Room and all three bedrooms; the Living Room audio-video system includes an i-pod dock and full-house audio. Wireless internet access is provided throughout the house. A covered and open outdoor terrace outside the Living-Dining Room also features a custom fire pit and landscape lighting. This enclosed courtyard is but 30 feet from a heated pool and spa that are reserved for only a few homeowners and their guests. Views of the private green space and the mountains abound.

The house was completely renovated in 2011 by new owners, architect Duff Kliewer and his partner; the furnishings include iconic Knoll and Herman Miller pieces, art and textiles that are modern interior design classics. It was included in the 2012 Palm Springs Modernism Week Interior Design Tour, and on the 2013 Palm Springs Preservation Foundation Leisure Life Home Tour.

The Canyon View Estates neighborhood in which the house is located is 10 minutes from the Palm Springs Airport, one and a half miles south of downtown Palm Springs, and a mile from the Smoketree shopping area, which offers two grocery stores and a variety of boutique retail.

Within a half-mile are two golf courses, one of which includes Palm Springs National, hiking, horseback riding, and tennis.
